i have always considered myself a landscape painter, drawn to large, outdoor environments that dwarf the human being. until recently, most of my subjects have been urban construction sites or areas of trauma, such as earthquakes or tanker fires during the gulf war. over the past few years, however, i have returned to the garden for my subject matter. much of this was precipitated by a move to florida from new england. with that move came an entirely new and alien "garden" that demanded a fresh look.
